1886 EXTRA LIGHT WEIGHT TAKEDOWN RIFLE IN .33 WCF, #157XXX, MADE 1920. This rifle has an uncleaned, honest look about it. Obviously someone's favorite hunting rifle for many seasons, it now retains little finish overall and shows a dull uncleaned gray-brown patina on the receiver, barrel and mag tube. There is still some aged blue on the barrel in the more protected areas around the rear sight, front sight and above the mag tube. All markings are sharp and clear. Screw heads are fine, takedown is tight, wood shows normal handling but is solid, never refinished and displays tight wood to metal fit. Buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact paired with a Lyman "Jack" sight (half moon with ivory bead). The bore is excellent with sharp rifling. Correct Winchester embossed hard rubber butt plate is fine and not cracked or chipped. Tight action with strong half-cock notch on the hammer. Actually, the only smokeless powder cartridge introduced in this model, a great caliber that is simply the .45-70 case necked down to take standard .338" bullets. Lots of life left in this 102 year old '86. The stories it could tell...
