Description:
"Eighth National Guard New York, Shooting Award Musket-Fowler, Awarded to David M. Moore. This musket-fowler was awarded to David M. Moore on 21 May 1832. It is 55" in overall length. The .69 caliber round barrel is 40" long. The smooth bore is fine. All metal is smooth and bright. Stock is fine with a checkered wrist. There are no cracks or chips. The lock, which has an “S" cock and roller frizzen is marked “I.P. Moore" in an arc over warranted. The lock and cock have decorative engraving. The barrel, bands, and breech plug tang have decorative engraving. In addition, the barrel is marked “J.P. Moore New York". J.P. Moore was a large New York firearms manufacturer and dealer. The breech plug tang is surrounded by a decorative engraved silver “U" shaped piece. The side plate is also silver and is nicely decorated. The very nicely decorated prize plate on the right butt stock features an eagle with a 5¾" wing span. The 3½" by ¾" inscription box below the eagle reads, “Officers of the Eighth National Guard [sid]/ to David M. Moore/ 21 May 1832". The action functions correctly. This is a very handsome shooting prize musket-fowler that would look great in any collection.
