Description:
Chinese ARSENAL 26 Type 56 SKS 7.62mm C&R Semi-Auto Carbine w/SPIKE BAYONET

1966 Manufactured VIETNAM WAR Era Carbine

Here we present a C&R Chinese Type 56 SKS Semi-Automatic Infantry Carbine, manufactured in 1966 at the Jianshe Arsenal, also known as Arsenal 26 in China and is equipped with a collapsible Spike Bayonet. China’s 7.62x54R Type 53 Carbine had served faithfully for almost 3/4 of a century in a variety of hot spots around the world before the Type 56 was introduced. The Type 56 is the Chinese copy of the Soviet SKS and was licensed by the Soviet Union to the Chinese in the 1950s as it was felt that a semi-automatic rifle fit their style of warfare. The rifle entered service in 1956, thus its designation.

This carbine acted as the workhorse of the People’s Liberation Army for some 30 years until 1985 when it was completely replaced by the Type 81 and type 56 assault rifles as it was regarded that the effectiveness of the former Type 56 had decreased. This weapon was mass produced at several different Chinese arsenals, indicated by a shaped stamp with a number inside. Most of them were produced at Arsenal /26\, also known as the Jianshe Arsenal.

The Type 56 Carbine serial numbers had dates in them, marking years of manufacture the rifle had. This starts at 2 (1957) and go up to 25 (1980). In most examples, these are stamped on the left side of the receiver, the top of the bolt, the bottom of the magazine, the side of the wooden buttstock, and rear receiver cover. The number on the left side of the receiver is the actual number, while the others are usually shortened. This rifle’s mail serial number is 11267889, meaning it was year 11 (1966) and the 267,889th carbine built in 1966.

The overall condition is good. Original Finish. Excellent action. Bright bore. This example sports a solid stock with an expected amount of wear. Sharp markings. Numbers match. PW Arms import marked receiver. The right buttstock is hand marked with punch dots.
