Description:
Described by General George S. Patton Jr as "the greatest battle implement ever devised", the M1 Garand was the standard service rifle for the US during World War II, the Korean War, and saw limited service during the Vietnam War. This is a beautiful example of an early Springfield Armory M1 Garand chambered in 30-06 Springfield. This WW2 era M1 Garand was manufactured in 1941 by Springfield Armory and is in excellent original condition. The finish is original and shows only honest wear. The original barrel is dated april of 1941 The muzzle of the barrel measures a 3+ and the throat a 4. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, but does show light frosting throughout. The correct Springfield stock features a long channel that is numbered with a scoop latch cutout, but has been sanded at some point and the inspector's cartouche is no longer visible. The front sight on this rifle still has the factory screw-seal, which seldom remains on M1 Garands of this vintage. The action is slick and tight, and all functions work as they should. This rifle is all period-correct and parts-matching with correct drawing numbers on all small parts. The original -3 SA op rod is correct and uncut. The rear sight elevation knob of the lock bar sights is checkered and the windage knob is knurled. As you can see from the pictures, this is a very clean and attractive Springfield M1 Garand. This M1 Garand would be the perfect choice for someone who wants a rifle that they can proudly display as a legitimate WW2 production rifle, but still enjoy shooting it at the range or farm without harming it's long-term investment potential. Includes an original GI sling.
