Description:
This is a nice example of a S&W 1 2nd type 7 shot .22 revolver from the 1860's. It is very unique in that it has a rear sight mounted on the top of the cylinder stop bar. Normally there is only a groove that serves as a rear sight. This rare little revolver has a miniature block rear sight attached and it looks factory installed. The address stamp on the barrel is crisp as well as the serial number on the bottom of the butt strap. The grip is marked with the same serial number. The edges along the barrel are mostly sharp and not rounded. The hinge is tight. The mechanics are crisp. The bore is clean and shiny with visible roughness. The metal has a silver patina and was possibly lightly cleaned. The brass has a uniform golden patina. The patent address is only partly visible. One side of the cylinder exhibits some light pitting that obscures part of the patent date. The grips are very nice with a nice sheen. There is one grip with a very small chip missing at the bottom.  This little revolver is one of a kind and possibly was a special order hence the applied rear sight. There were many variations of this little revolver and collecting them all is a hobby unto itself. If you collect them, this would be a special addition that maybe no one else has?
