Description:
Serial #01826, .22 LR, 27" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This rifle was one of many purchased by Britain for training purposes in WW2, refurbished after the war had ended, and finally released for commercial sale in the 1960s. The metal retains 60-70% of the original blue finish, with silvering at the muzzle, at the receiver, and thin brown freckling along the entire length. A post-war British "M.192 / 1948" armory refurbish stamp is present on the top of the receiver, along with military inspection stamps, an added serial number, and later Birmingham commercial proofs as well. The bolt retains a bright metal finish with crisp Winchester and "BNP" proofs. The rifle is further equipped with a sporting bead front sight and a Parker-Hale PH-16 rear aperture sight installed on the left side of the receiver. The walnut stock has numerous small surface blemishes scattered about the armory reapplied finish, and has a repaired chip at the coarse inletting for the military sling swivel added to the buttstock. The rifle is housed in an original printed two-piece box along with a post-WW2 US M1 green canvas sling. This is a fine example of a wartime Winchester, with a great British connection and box.
