Here we present an antique Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army Single Action Revolver in .44-40 Winchester, made circa 1880-1883 in Norwich, Connecticut by Hopkins and Allen. These revolvers are considered today to be some of the best made of the late 19th Century and the Wild West, even better to some than similar Colts and Smith & Wessons, though we all know who stood the test of time. These revolvers certainly tended to have different, very well-thought features than their competition, and they were extremely well-made. According to Flayderman, there were approximately 9,000 Pocket Army revolvers produced in the 1880s in three configurations with most of production in single action versions. The Pocket Army featured six-shot cylinders like the Frontier model, and was produced in .44 M&H, .44 Russian, and by far the most popular .44-40 Winchester caliber, as is this one. The primary distinction between the Pocket Army and the Frontier is that the Pocket Army sports a 'bird's head' grip. An innovative factor here is an exposed metal piece that extends from the grip that includes an integral lanyard loop. If in a hand-to-hand melee situation, the grip was quite an effective bludgeon. In fact, the grip was commonly referred to as the 'skull crusher'. The overall condition is very good. Original nickel finish. The action is excellent with solid lockup. The bore shows that it has certainly been shot and remains in decent shape. The grips are solid. Numbers match. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44-40 WCF Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
