Description:
Here's a very clean and quite rare Winchester 1886 Deluxe in 40-82 W.C.F. caliber. S/N 48530 made in 1890.
Special features include the beautifully grained deluxe wood, 26" 1/2 Octagon barrel, 1/2 button magazine, steel "shotgun" buttplate, set trigger, Lyman tang sight, and sling swivels.
This rifle shows strong and completely original finishes on both metal and wood with some faded case colors remaining on the receiver and its working components. There has been no attempt whatsoever that I can detect to touch up, refinish, or even topcoat the wood on this fine original example.
The barrel bluing does reveal some notable surface spotting/oxidation along its length, but there is no significant rust or pitting. The bore looks very good for its age with clear and consistent rifling throughout and light frost in the grooves, but there are no noteworthy issues that I can see.
As previosly noted, there is a folding Lyman tang sight attached, as well as a Marbles leaf rear sight with folding blade.
The mechanical functions all appear to be in perfect working order and are as smooth as silk.
This fine rifle includes a Cody Museum/factory letter verifying its authenticity.
