Wow...this is a special gun. 1949 Just after the war. Distinguished by what is known to collectors as the Long Wood (forend slighlty longer than other models) and Flat Band (forward barrel band is flat not rouned)
This exceptional example is almost completely free of any evidence of being handled or used in the 73 yrs since it left the old Winchester Plant in New Haven Ct. Addes bonus and excellent Lyman Peep in factory holes. Front site blade replaced with a hooded one compatible with the peep (orig blades readily avail just insert in the dovetail). Stock not even drilled for sling swivel. The only flaw is a very (smaller than dime size) compass on top of comb. These were commonly used in the big woods of the Northeast. This is so small it could easily be removed, a little wood putty and stain would make it dissapear, or if somone wished there are many of these stocks avail on ebay and other places. The metail is approx perfect as is the bore.
