Winchester Model 1886 rifle in caliber 33 WCF, featuring a 24" round extra lightweight barrel with ramped front sight, plain walnut stocks, plain trigger, blued and case hardened finish, standard open sights, solid frame, with two special order features - a full magazine and a crescent-shaped rifle butt (standard for the lightweight 33 caliber guns were 1/2 magazine and shotgun butt). Made and shipped in 1907 per the pictured and included Cody Museum email sheet. CONDITION: Receiver retains 25% original bright blue with the usual carry loss on the bottom. Barrel about 40% thinning aged blue turning patina. Magazine tube 60% original dulling blue and is tight with no wobble. Correct rear sight and elevator intact. Marbles 37W front sight installed. Traces of case hardening on hammer and lever. Some corrosion on top of butt plate. Butt stock very sound with a long scratch on the left side, no splits or cracks, no extra holes, never sanded or refinished, very minor wear. Fore arm has a 1/2" split upper front right, otherwise also very sound with minimal wear, etc. Action is smooth with a properly working half cock safety. Feeds, fires, and ejects properly (was tested with ammo from Buffalo Arms and was extremely accurate at 50 yards). Bore in the nickel steel barrel has strong lands with just a hint of frost and darkness, should clean better, rated at an 8 of 10, no pitting, no rings, no craters. Overall very good and will make a fine collector/hunter/shooter. Uncommon variation that will nicely fill a void in your collection.
