Here we have a very nice Weatherby Mark V Varmintmaster bolt action rifle Mfg. by J.P. Sauer & Sohn in W. Germany. This rifle is chambered in .224 Weatherby Magnum caliber. The .224 Weatherby Magnum is a sporting cartridge that was developed in 1963 by Roy Weatherby after about 10 years of development. It was originally called the .224 Weatherby Varmintmaster when it was introduced alongside the Weatherby Varmintmaster rifle. This particular example has some high edge wear, handling and use marks on both the stock and the metal components. It appears the rifle was stored in a case for a period of time and the coarse fabric left areas of very light marks on the stock that do not dimish the overall appearance of the firearm. The 24 inch barrel has a good bore and good rifling. This rifle has been carried and used so it has some character marks. The stock is one piece skip-line checkered walnut with a high gloss finish, a raised Monte Carlo comb with a cheekpiece, a capped pistol grip, and a brown Weatherby buttpad. There is a rosewood grip cap with tan spacer and a tan diamond shaped piece of wood inlet into its bottom surface. There is also a rosewood nose cap with a tan spacer. Mounted on the rifle is a Leupold Vari X II 3-9x scope, bases and rings. This fine rifle would make a great addition to an existing collection or an excellent start to a new collection.
