Description:
US Springfield 1866 2nd Allin Trapdoor Single Shot chambered in .50-70 Government. This rifle features a 36 5/8" with barleycorn front sight and 700-yard graduated leaf rear sight. 1866 Dated breechblock with eagle head. 1864 Springfield lock. Left side of barrel has "JB" inspector's mark. 3 Band walnut stock with visible cartouche on left side and markings behind trigger guard tang that appear to be "F" and "N". Slotted tip cleaning rod. Estimated 25,000 were converted from Model 1863 percussion muskets. CONDITION: very fine. Barrel and fittings were finished in the white and remain largely so showing scattered dark spots. Lock retains 40% lightly visible case colors. Breechblock has fading blue. Exceptionally good original wood finish showing scratches and marks. Bore is generally bright with strong rifling showing scattered light pitting. .50-70 Government
