Description:
SOLD ******** Pending receipt of funds*************Smith & Wesson Limited Production Model 520 .357 magnum caliber revolver.  This model was produced in response to a special order from the New York State Police for 3,000 guns.  It was basically a Highway Patrolman (Model 28-2) but with fixed sights. It could be thought of as a Highway Patrolman Military & Police revolver, although it was never given that name. Only 3,111 guns were ever manufactured.  None of the guns were ever delivered to the New York State Police.  The New York State Police changed their mind and purchased the model 28-2 instead.  They are very uncommon to see advertised for sale on the market.  It seems that those who have them - hang onto them.  Interesting to note that this model number is missing from the Guns International model index.  Many (perhaps most) that show up for sale are in "old stock as-new condition".  Some collectors estimate about 95% of these guns are unfired.  Everyone knew from the start they were limited production collector guns.

The guns were made in 1979 and 1980.  Serial number range is N557750 to N560860.  This gun was made in 1979.  SN = N558929.    "N" frame, pinned barrel, recessed front cylinder face, double action, black ramp front sight, fixed rear sight notch, 6 round cylinder, 4 inch tapered barrel, blue finish, factory rounded modified magna checkered wood grips (also known as PC magna grips), square butt.  Includes correct box however, the box label is missing.  Unopened cleaning kit is included.  You will never see an original manual as they were never printed.  As a matter of fact, no manual was included with the 520's from the factory at all.  I inherited this gun from my father when he passed, so I am not the original owner - but I believe the gun has never been fired after it left the factory.  When I cleaned the gun this week, I removed a considerable amount of grease that appeared to be added at the factory.  Finish and grips are in near mint condition.  The drag line on the cylinder is extremely faint.  This model is still the only "N" frame in .357 magnum with fixed sights.  See the Smith and Wesson letter dated December 26, 2017 (attached) that explains the history of this model.

Not to be confused with a different Model 520 revolver that Smith and Wesson produced 26 years later.  The newer gun, introduced in about 2005, is a substantially changed Model 520.  It is a 7-shot revolver built on an "L" frame with a titanium cylinder.

This limited production gun would be a great addition to any Smith & Wesson or revolver collection.
