Description:
Early Series III Manhattan Firearms Navy Caliber (.36 percussion) revolver with desirable 6 1/2" octagon barrel, blued and case hardened finish, brass back strap and trigger guard that are silver plated, walnut grips, single action, 5-shot cylinder with scene. This revolver combined the features of Colt's 1851 Navy and Colt 1849 Pocket (a smaller frame Navy caliber revolver) preceding the introduction of the Colt Pocket Navy.

CONDITION: Barrel and cylinder retain 2% original finish. Frame and loading lever retain 5% muted case colors. Original grips are numbered to the gun and retain 95% original finish. Cylinder retains 75% of the scene. Bore is fair with weak but evident rifling and scattered oxidation. Action is smooth, locks tightly on both half and full cock, indexes nicely each time and on each cylinder. All nippled are complete, intact, and original. Serial number also matches on barrel, frame, trigger guard and bottom of grip strap. About 20% of the original silver plate remains on the strap and trigger guard. Barrel is tight to the frame with no wobble. As with the Colt 1849 Pocket, Smith & Wesson #2 Old Army, Colt Pocket Police, and Bacon Pocket revolver, the Manhattan was sometimes used as a secondary private back up weapon by NCOs and Officers on both sides of the Civil War. Will make a nice addition to your Civil War revolver collection.
