Description:
Ithaca 1911A1 pistol, # 878,195.  A correct collector quality early Ithaca.  Shipped in June, 1943 shipment of 1,000 pistols to Raritan Ordnance Depot in Metuchen, NJ.  This pistol was manufactured during early Ithaca production when Colt, Remington and surplus parts were being used.   Ithaca did not reach full in house production until about  July -August, 1943.  This pistol has the following Colt parts; barrel, slide stop, mainspring housing and possibly the slide.   The pistol appears as new with the exception of a little wear on moving parts such as the side of the trigger, grip safety and hammer.  There is no evidence of firing on the slide around the firing pin.  The firing pin and spring are “in the white”.  There are no arsenal re-build marks on the pistol.  There is a flaming bomb stamped in the well of the receiver towards the rear.  There are no markings under the firing pin stop.   Barrel is a Colt barrel, brightly blued with no signs of firing.  Bore is mirror.  The words “colt 45 auto” are just above the left side of the lug with a distinct large “G” stamped on the bottom of the barrel in front of the lug.  These large “G” marked barrels were used on Colts until about May or June of 1943 and also supplied to Ithaca and Remington during the same time period.  The barrel link has a punch mark on the bottom. The loading ramp is bright but not polished.  Serial number does not have bright metal as the procedure of stamping over finish was not adopted until about #1,208,674.  The slide shows darkening of finish from hardening treatment of the muzzle end and area above the slide stop.   The serial number has the earlier No prefix rather than the NO as was typical of Ithaca. The mainspring housing has the checkered pattern as typical to Colt.  The narrow hammer appears to have Colt or Remington checkering.  Both were supplying hammers to Ithaca at the time.  Magazine is correct WW11 with S (Scovill) on the toe.  Per postal regulations, pistol must mail to a FFL-01 by my FFL-01.  Shipping charge is $50 to anywhere in continental US.
