Description:
"

The Evans Repeating Rifle Company, Mechanic Falls, ME, manufactured approx. 3,000 New Model Sporting Rifles between 1877 and 1879. They featured a 28-shot capacity magazine in the butt for the 44 Evans 1.5"" centerfire cartridge. The overall length of this Evans sporting rifle is approx. 43"". The 25"" round barrel has a very good bore with strong rifling and some erosion toward the muzzle. It should be noted that most Evans New Model sporting rifles have octagon barrels. The top of the barrel is marked EVANS REPEATING RIGLE. MECHANIC FALLS, ME. PAT. DEC. 8, 1868 & SEPT. 16 1871 U.S.A. The overall length of this Evans sporting rifle is approx. 43"". The 25"" ROUND barrel has a very good bore with erosion toward the muzzle. It should be noted hat virtually all Evans had octagon barrels vice the round barrel found on this one. The barrel has a globe and post front sight and military style ladder rear sight. The barrel retains approx. 80% blue turning plum. The frame has a smooth brown patina. This sporting rifle has the late lever with the curled under tip which does not work with the installed lever latch. The stocks are fine with no cracks or chips, lots of original varnish, and very little wear. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice late Evans New Model sporting rifle with the scarce round barrel.
