As I understand The model 1841 received its Mississippi name when Jefferson Davis's regement we're issued 1846 dated guns during the War with Mexico. The dark walnut stock is solid in good condition Showing normal wear and may have a hairline crack in the wrist area. The functioning lock is marked Harpers Ferry 1846 US with the American Eagle. The lock is controlled by functioning set triggers which I have never seen on a Mississippi rifle. The 54 caliber rifled barrel and lock have been cleaned to bright. The barrel is marked US with inspection marks.. Durring the civil war many Model 1841 were returned to federal armories to be updated to fit various bayonets. This one was turned and a bayonet lug fit at the muzzle. The original rod is present but the top swivel is missing. Overall a nice historic rifle most likely used in the war with Mexico and the Civil War. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
