ANTIQUE, GRANDFATHER OF ALL S&W SIDE-SWING CYLINDER REVOLVERS IS THIS HIGH CONDITION MODEL 1896 .32 LONG CENTER FIRE CALIBER, BLUE & MEDALLION PEARL GRIP REVOLVER, #2XXX, C.1896-1897. One of the best examples of these scarce revolvers I've seen in a long time! These early S&Ws have no cylinder latch, instead one simply pulls the end of the ejector rod under the barrel to release the cylinder. Obviously, this was changed in the next model. Only made from 1896-1903 with just 19,712 manufactured and serial numbered from 1-19712. Very scarce today and those that turn up tend to be hard used or abused. This model also had the distinctive patent dates of 1884, 1889, 1894 and 1895 stamped along with other S&W address markings on each chamber side of the cylinder between the flutes with no barrel markings! The right side of the frame has the S&W logo. This excellent example with 4 1/4" barrel is in desirable high polish blue finish, of which most remains aside from some typical flaking /browning above the grips on the rear of the frame on both sides- more on the right side. Excellent case colors on the hammer and trigger. Excellent screws. Exc. blue on the trigger guard and front strap with most remaining on the back strap also. Exc. bright bore. Matching serial numbers on the frame, cylinder and barrel. Beautiful deep dish gold S&W medallion pearl grips are amazingly not chipped or cracked. Exc. screw heads. A super attractive and rare low numbered antique S&W especially with blue finish and pearl grips!
