Description:
J. STEVENS Arms Co. “IDEAL” No. 44 .32-40 Caliber WCF FALLING BLOCK Rifle

Largest Producer of Sporting Firearms in the World!

Here we present a J. Stevens Arms Co. Ideal No. 44 Rifle, made circa the 1920s in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. This rifle cannot be dated since the Stevens factory records were burned in their entirety. Production began on this rifle in 1894 and went on through 1933.

This rifle is chambered in .32-40, a very effective medium bore cartridge with minimal recoil, in the realm of .30-30 and .32 Winchester Special. This rifle was manufactured right around the time that Stevens Arms & Tool Company was becoming the largest producer of sporting firearms in the world. By 1915, Stevens was a leader in the American arms business as a maker of target and small game hunting guns.

The overall condition is good+. Original blue and case colored finish. The action remains excellent with the exception that the lever toggle/spring is worn so that the lever hangs when the hammer is cocked and one’s hand is not holding the lever shut. This is common with these rifles chambered in larger cartridges (rifle rather than pistol calibers). The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The forestock shows a bit more wear. The butt stock is in great shape. The Stevens trademarked butt plate has a chip at the bottom.

This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.

Barrel is 25-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .32-40
