Description:
38-55 Winchester, serial number 1623XX. Mfg date 1898. 26" octagon barrel. Bore is fair-good, shootable, no heavy rust areas, uniform wear. Barrel retains high % plumb blue, with rust freckling throughout. Receiver shows silver, probable dulled color case. Possibly nickel. Lever retains some color case with rust freckling, tang shows color case 60+%. Screwheads show minor wear. Tang screw probable replacement. Barrel marked "Special smokeless steel", top of receiver marked "Marlin Safety" tang marked "1893". Wood is sound, showing no cracking or major marring. Forend shows minor marring, little remaining finish. Buttstock shows minor marring, 40% original finish. Nickel silver front sight inserted backwards. More photos on request.
