Description:
The large on line  sale  that I purchased this flintlock on had it listed as a early 1795 Springfield,  There add stated that Springfield Armory records indicate 245 were made in 1795 with a total of 3,152 made between the years 1795 and 1798. Exact identification of these weapons has not been made for they were not marked or dated as far as known. They also stated that the eagle and date dies  we're not purchased at Springfield until 1799. I did compare it to my 1810 dated Springfield and note the locks seem identical at 6 3/8th inches and identical trigger guards.  A knowledgeable friend felt it was pre war 1812 but may be of Virginia manufacturey  Thus my best quess it is possibly a early 1795 Flintlock or of Virginia manufacturey or other early US made Military 69 caliber musket.  The unmarked flintlock does function. The smooth bore 42" barrel is approximately 69 caliber.  The 3 band dark walnut stock shows considerable wear, dents, chips and cracks. All metal parts have a brown patina. The old flintlock musket appears complete.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.  Shipping will be actuall cost by insured usps priority mail with tracking.
