Description:
Sharps New model 1859, serial #32664 in original configuration. The carbine is .52 cal with a combination pellet priming or percussion priming system. Early in serial number range of 30,000-80,000. Right side of receiver is stamped C SHARPS’ PAT/OCT.5th 1852. This would have place manufacturing around 1858 or 1859. The following is lightly stamped on the rear sight base, “RS LAWERENCE/PATENED/ Feb. 15th 1859”. On the back end of the barrel there is a very light, partial stamp, “NEW MODEL 1859”. Front of rear sight has a partial, very light stamping. You can just see some of the letter Co/Conn which originally would have been “Sharps Rifle/ Manufg. Co/ Hartford Conn.” On the receiver just in front of saddle bar appears to be “PATD. 1848”. Again, a very light stamp. The rear of the trigger bar has inspector letters AHF. The carbine is .52 cal with a combination pellet priming or percussion priming system. Straight breech falling block. 22in. browned barrel. All iron furniture including stock patch box. Saddle ring and bar are present. Finish on all the metal has patinaed to an overall brown color with some light surface spotting on the bullet feed groove. See pictures. The wood is in good condition with some dings and dents but remarkably good for the age. There is an aging cracks in the wood radiating from the left front of the forend but it dies in the wood. Original wood finish. See pictures for most severe dings, three on butt stock and one on for end. The bore has sharp lands and grooves and some shine but has some scattered light pitting. Action is tight with precise clicks and trigger release. In summary, this is just a nice old carbine in original configuration that escaped being re-arsenaled and displays itself well as an honest civil war survivor.
