Description:
This is an Antique 1840's-60's, J. Matthewman Brass and Copper Powder Flask. The charger is marked on top J. Matthewman for John Matthewman of New Haven CT. This flask can be found on page 325 flask #654 in Riling book. The body is 6 inches with a width of slightly over 3 inches. This flask has been repaired on the bottom right side and is slightly separated on the left bottom. The spring is not operation and the thumb piece moves with no resistance. The patina is a deep rich bronze copper the brass is a shade closer to golden. This flask comes standard with a set of hangers and this one appears not to have had them. An honest period flask in good to very good condition.
