The Model 1915 is a hammerless auto pistol with a grip safety and only 6500 were made from 1915-1916. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center ("Cody Museum) that houses the Winchester records now retains the Savage records. A call to them showed this revolver being accepted Sept. 7, 1915 and shipped Sept. 10, 1915 to John G. Rollins and Sons. A quick Google search turned up some info on this company. Apparently they were an export company active during this time and obviously exported this rare Savage to England during World War I. Overall, this pistol is in excellent condition retaining most of the high polish blue with only very light normal handling wear. The bore is bright and excellent, the manual safety and grip safety function perfectly and the grips are excellent- looks like there may be a barely discernable crack in the front portion of the left panel that you have to look carefully to find. There are two tiny proof marks on the barrel visible in the ejection port and three equally tiny proofs (crown over V) on the left rear of the slide and frame etc. The proofs are really tiny and you have to look carefully to even fine them. Exc. Savage markings. Correct magazine which is important as this model takes a special magazine different from other Savage mags. This is a really rare pistol with lots of speculative history regarding who eventually bought this firearm during the Great War. It is interesting to note that British officers were required to purchase their own sidearms. Cody records call-in sheet included.
