The last of the big bore tubular magazine Winchesters, the Model 71 has since been reproduced, but nothing beats an original! This example was obviously someone's favorite rifle that was carried and used, but well taken care of and not altered. This one retains the checkered steel shotgun butt plate and is fitted with the correct Lyman receiver sight mounted in the factory holes. The barrel and mag tube retain about all the blue that is showing some age and minor edge wear only. The rear barrel dovetail has a filler blank and appears never to have had a buckhorn sight. The receiver shows good blue in the rear portions mainly with much of the front section and receiver bottom mixing brown from honest handling and hunting! The bolt shows exc. blue, exc. screw heads, the action is tight and the bore is bright and excellent with sharp rifling. Wood shows only light handling with tight wood to metal fit. Lots of life left in this fine 70 year old .348!
