Description: The Remington Model 700 is one of the most famous, and most popular bolt action rifles ever made, so much so that it has remained in production for over 60 years after its introduction! The Model 700 rifle has been used all over the world by hunters, military snipers, police, and match target shooters. This example is the BDL Stainless Synthetic, chambered in the famous 270 Winchester. Mounted on the rifle is a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x36mm scope. It uses a 1” tube, a duplex reticle, and has a resettable index ring, to list a few features. This rifle was manufactured in April of 1993, judging by the “CN” barrel code. While this same code also applies to April of 2019, there is one feature that indicates the earlier year to be correct one. The 700 BDL SS uses the older style 700 trigger, unlike the newer models which are equipped with the X-Mark Pro Adjustable trigger which can be adjusted for pull weight. The original X-Mark Pro wasn’t introduced until around 2007, while the Adjustable version wasn’t introduced until 2009. This example is pre-owned and has seen some use. It does not exhibit some wear to the stock. In addition to the usual handling wear there is a notable amount of scraping on the pistol grip cap, and to a lesser extent, the left hand side of the pistol grip itself. The metal exhibits some light marks on the barrel. The receiver has little to no wear. The scope base and rings have small amounts of rust present in a few spots. The scope exhibits some light nicks in the finish, but no dings. The bore is in excellent shape with no rust or pitting, though some fouling is present. As with most non-magnum Remington 700s, magazine capacity is 4 rounds. The .270 Winchester was originally introduced in 1925 but was not immediately popular due to the relatively recent introduction of the .30-06 Springfield in 1906. It is was also an odd standout in terms of its .277-inch diameter bullet. The only other cartridge to use this bullet diameter prior to the .270 Win was the Chinese 6.8x57 Mauser cartridge for use in the Model 1907 Chinese Mauser and even that cartridge is mostly unheard of (many of the Model 1907s were rechambered for the standard German 8x57 Mauser). There is some debate about whether Winchester got the idea for the .270 from the Chinese round or if they simply took inspiration from the more familiar 7x57 Mauser. The .270 picked up in popularity after World War II once American hunters realized the .270 could shoot a flatter trajectory than its cousin the .30-06. Available bullets for the .270 range from the light weight 90 gr bullets up to the heavy 160 gr bullets. As a general rule of thumb, the 90 to 110 gr bullets are for varmints and small deer, 130 gr for mid-size deer, sheep, mountain goats, and antelope, while the 140 gr to 160 gr are for large deer, elk, caribou, and even moose. The 130 gr bullet is most popular followed closely by the 150 gr bullet. If you are looking for a good long-range shooter this 700 is a fine choice.
