Receiver Serial Number: 398xxx. Barrel SA 5/18. Double heat treatment started on Rock Island Receivers at serial number 285507 and nickel steel receivers started at serial number 319921. So this is a “safe to shoot” nickel steel receiver. As I understand it, the last Rock Island Arsenal production complete rifle was 376,973. Apparently a large number of RIA receivers after that were sent to Springfield Armory to complete into finished rifles. Receiver number 398xxx was probably produced in 2019/2020 and shipped to Springfield Armory. SA had a large number of spare parts after WW1 and the 1918 SA barrel date would be consistent with this timing and likely is the original barrel on this gun. There are no marks on the stock, but stock appears to be USGI. Stock is a 1942/1943 vintage type 7 non finger groove stock. I have fired the rifle in single shot mode with the internal magazine "OFF" and also with the magazine "ON" and loaded from the stripper clips. It functioned perfectly in both modes. I have several stripper clips that come with the rifle. I also have CMP certified, WW2 M1 Garand listed on Guns International. Garand is receiver number 2,810,xxx with original barrel S A 3 44. New wood. Very Good to Excellent condition. Listed for $1750. Would sell both Rock Island 1903 in this listing and Garand together for $2,800.00. $50.00 shipping each gun to 48 states.
