Description:
General Specs: Winchester, 16 Gauge, 7lbs, Chokes M/F, LOP 14 1/16", DAH 2 5/8", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 16271

When John Olin wanted to have title to the strongest side by side shotgun in the world, he went to work and got it done.  The Model 21 is an American icon with a well-deserved reputation.  A handsome gun built with the finest steels, gunners in the know have utilized this Winchester in the field and at the club to shoot thousands of rounds without failure.  IF YOU LIKE HEAVY LOADS FOR PHEASANTS OR OTHER TOUGH GAME, THIS IS THE GUN.  FOR THOSE THAT SHOOT HIGH VOLUME BIRDS OR CLAYS, THIS IS YOUR GUN!  With only 30,000 produced (compared to 250,000 Parkers!), any high condition Model 21 is a valuable, investment quality firearm.   Search the internet and you will see lots of 12ga. guns for sale, as most of the 30,000 made were 12ga. guns.  Sixteen-gauge M21’s were made in fewer numbers than the 20ga. guns, so finding original Model 21 guns in 16ga. is not an easy task.  When you do, they are usually 26” barreled guns with skeet chokes.  Most that you see have been restored with modern finishes that look like the receiver has been painted black and not done to factory specifications.  This M21 16ga. sn16271, made in 1940, is a bit different, as it has 28” barrels choked M/F (as specified in the accompanying Cody Museum info sheet), a factory buttplate (rather than the all-too-common pad), and it has all factory finishes.  The stock has figured factory wood and great stock dimensions.  These details are what make this gun different from many being offered for sale.  Some gunners like the gun with the natural look, a gun that has been carried but well cared for.  That is how I would describe this gun, with 98% factory blue on all and wood.  The gun is mechanically perfect with well-timed ejectors, single selective trigger, barrels tight on the breech face and hinge pin like a new gun, screws all excellent, no cracks in the wood, perfect checkering and wood to metal fit.  The gun is priced right for an all-original Model 21 with excellent ORIGINAL CONDITION, NOT RESTORED LIKE THE REST OF THEM YOU SEE.  What a fantastic upland gun for the tough pheasants and long-flushing sharptails you will encounter in the west, ie South Dakota, Kansas, North Dakota…the season is upon us and this is your gun!  Thanks for looking.

We employ full time gunsmiths on premises and can perform alterations to suit your needs within a few weeks of purchase. Common requests are: -stock bending to suit your particular requirements -addition of any specified butt pad to increase length of pull -alteration of chokes to suit your shooting preferences -lengthening of chambers and forcing cones -darkening stock color with penetrating stains -restoring any part of the gun including rust blue, charcoal blue, bone and charcoal case color, wood restoration and checkering recuts. If you like one our guns but it needs "tweaked", let us know and we can quote you a time and price. Some enthusiasts like the guns "as found" and others want them "just so". We often list guns as found and let the particular buyer choose how they want their gun to fit or look.
