German Action Designed by Carl Wilhelm Aydt
Here we present a C&R C.G. Haenel Original System Aydt Schuetzen Target Rifle made circa the early 1900s in Germany. The swinging-block action Aydt system was designed by German gunsmith Carl Wilhelm Aydt (1847-1923) and patented in 1885. Aydt target rifles and pistols, known under German terms as Schuetzen and Scheibenbüchse, were produced until 1939 by C.G. Haenel Waffenfabrik, F.W. Heym Gewehr-Fabrik, August Schüler and other manufacturers. All of the original System Aydts used actions made by Haenel with the rest of the rifle completed by another maker. Most of these rifles were made in Suhl or Zella-Mehlis (the German gun-making center) and sold to a retailer who had his name put on the rifle. The most popular chambering for these guns was 8.15x46R. Together with Martini system, the Aydt system was most widely used in German target rifles of late 19th-early 20th century.
The overall condition is very good. Refinished metal surfaces. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock is smooth and solid with nice checkering.
