Description:
An 1807-dated, roughly .70 cal.,with a 42 1/2” barrel with a heavily oxidized bore. All of the metal surfaces have a coating of soft brown oxidation and will have light pitting in a few spots which may be more moderate. There is a slight amount of the barrel trimmed off, leaving only a portion of the bayonet lug present, mosr likely the muzzle was dented.. The type II lock is dated 1807 at its rear and the Eagle, US and Springfield markings are all legible, the barrel shows where a nipple bolster once was, it is no longer present, being in the stages of reconversion. The stock rates good with overall dings handling marks, raised grain from exposure to the elements.. The forestock ahead of the triggerguard front extension shows a deeply branded “co-“, going laterally and lengthwise so the letter which precedes “co-“ is no longer legible. The lock functions loosely mechanically and the frizzen spring is somewhat weak, there is an antique ramrod included.
