Description:
#90761, Gebruder Merkel - Suhl: A 1977 Merkel O/U 9.3 x 74R Hand Detachable Sidelock Ejector Model 223E on their Kersten Double Crossbolt Action Body, It is with 25" Ejector barrels with a full length solid rib, 1 standing rear sight, Nitro Proofed in Suhl, Original claw mount bases, A Kahles 1.1-4.5 x 20 Helia S scope with a duplex crosshair with heavy bars except at 12 o'clock, Kersten crossbolt double top lock, Bolstered frame, Hand detachable locks, Double triggers with the front trigger a set trigger, Cocking indicators, 3 piece forend, Pistol grip stock at 14 3/16" over a 1/2" pad, It will go 14 3/4" with a 1" pad installed, Steel trigger guard with very nice engraving, Sling eyes, European style cheekpiece, 7 lbs. 15 oz. without the scope & 9 lbs. 1 oz. with it mounted, 98% engraving coverage of well-cut game scene with Stag and Alpine Chamois on the lockplates, Then all the balance is very well cut with thistle leaves that is very attractive and quite unusual, It has locking screws on 3 key screws, The locks are jeweled on the inside, The original barrel blue at 97%, The original frame finish at 99%, The original wood finish at 96% with very slight handling marks, The checkering is sharp & crisp and remains at 99%, The bores are excellent plus and they look like they did in March of 1977. This piece is not one of the modern Merkel's and is a Suhl made gun.

Compare this Suhl made Merkel to a current gun for the same price and this Gebruder Merkel from 1977 looks like a pretty strong value to me. Most current guns depth is a backyard wading pool; this Merkel's depth is the ocean. The difference in liking a gun or loving a gun is in the details.
