Description:
THIS GUN HAS BEEN SOLD TO DON.  THANKS.

Ithaca made the Nitro Special for Lefever.  This one looks like it was made in 1922.  Buyer pays shipping.
Borrowed from Crazy4Goldens: ://crazy4goldens.godaddysites/f/ithacas-lefever-nitro-special

The Nitro Special was Ithaca's experiment with a design which was already being employed by gun manufacturers like Fox and L.C. Smith, but had not been used by Ithaca in their doubles.  I owned both a 1911 Fox Sterlingworth and a field grade L.C. Smith damascus double made the same year....and both had a lock-up similar to that of the Ithaca Lefever.  The new design eliminated the barrel under-lug fastener, and relied entirely on a rotating bolt through the barrel extension.  The new design turned out to be strong and durable, and many features of the Nitro Special design were utilized in the graded N.I.D. guns introduced and marketed from 1925 to 1948.   The Nitro Special used the same high quality barrels, drop forged steel frames and many of the quality lock works that were used in their graded gun,  but external cosmetics were held to a minimum.
