The New Line was a single action pocket revolver introduced by the Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1873 and continued through 1884, with the .22 caliber being manufactured between 1873 and 1877 with a total of roughly 55,343 being manufactured. Two years after the Colt House Revolver, a year after the Colt Open Top, and almost simultaneously alongside the Colt Peacemaker, the Colt New Line was one of the first metallic cartridge, rear-loading revolvers manufactured by Colt. It was designed to be a handy pocket-carry revolver, chambered in .22 rimfire, which was very popular for self-defense in those days. The revolver features 7 shots of .22 rimfire. Of all the Colt “New Line” revolvers made, the .22 caliber was the only one featuring a 7 shot cylinder. All other calibers utilized a 5-shot cylinder. Etched on the left side of the barrel is “COLT NEW 22”. Patent dates are on the bottom of the barrel. The overall condition is good. Strong action. Replacement cylinder arbor pin. Original finish. Fair bore, dim with thin rifling. Both grips are solid and show wear. Numbers match. Faint but legible etched panel on the barrel. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2-1/4 inches. Caliber: .22 Rimfire (short, black powder) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
