REDUCED PRICE! Offered is an early Ball & Williams manufactured Ballard rifle, S.N. 10139; This fine condition Ballard rifle is chambered in the Ballard .44 RF caliber and is fitted with a 28” octagonal barrel measuring 1.125” at the breech and 0.935” at the muzzle; The barrel has a very good bright bore with scattered, very small minor pitting. The octagon barrel retains very sharp edges and has about 50% of the original bluing; the original front sight has been lost, and a period correct replacement is available with the purchase; the rear barrel sight is the folding leaf sight with three yardage settings, and the rifle has the correct rear tang sliding peep sight.
The left side of the receiver has a double stamping: “BALL & WILLIAMS, Worchester, Mass.” together with “MERWYN & BRAY, AGT’S,, NEW YORK”. The right side of the receiver is stamped “BALLARD’S PATENT, NOV. 5,1861. The receiver, lever and trigger are aged to a pleasing plum/grey patina. The action is worked via the loop lever, which closes tight. The buttstock and forearm retain about all the original varnish and have a very few scattered, light handling marks. The forearm finishes with a brass end cap. The buttstock has a brass rifle plate, and all wood to metal fit is excellent. Price reduced to $1995.
This rifle is a beautiful, well preserved example of the Ball & Williams manufactured Ballard rifle, and will be a welcome addition to any collector of Ballard patent firearms.
