Description:
This Spencer Civil War carbine was altered in to a sporting configuration after the war. The sling bar and ring were removed.
The condition of the butt stock has repairs and a chip on top of the wrist which can be seen in the photos. The front of the fore stock has a nice Tin/Pewter nose cap and is in good condition except for the gouge on the left side shown inn the photos. The 56/56 (shows 54 cal. on my barrel gauge)barrel is 22 inches and has 6 groove rifling shows strong rifling and firing wear 4 digit number (7934) on the barrel. Sights appear original to the rifle and early configuration. No Stabler Cut-off indicating that this is a Civil War production carbine. It has usual markings on top of the frame SPENCER REPEATNG/RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS. PAT'D MARCH 6 1860 and a 5 digit serial number (43056) stamped on the frame behind the hammer (shown in the photos).
