Description:
SOLD ** Armi Marocchi BLE Lusso .410 Ga., 27 5/8” bls, Single Trigger, Fancy wood, Near Mint

Description: Marocchi S.p.A. of Val Trompia, Italy, Anson & Deeley Lusso boxlock ejector side by side double, .410 gauge, choked full (left) and Improved Modified (right). This is the quintessential Italian boxlock ejector system, the same action that nearly all the Italian makers, including Luciano Bosis, adopts for their boxlock action.*

While Marocchi is well known for their quality production models in America, few know of their custom shop where special orders of fine guns have been made since 1922 and are still being made today trying to fulfill the demand of their in-country followers (Italians). This little .410 is one of them!

Just look at the photos and compare the details and quality. With 3” chambers (CAM 76 mm), the 27 5/8” (70 cm) chopper lump ejector barrels are fitted with a tapered level hand-filed matted rib with a single front bead. Other features include a Boss non-selective single inertia trigger, an Anson push button forearm release with hand-checkered release button, the tried and true Purdey double underlug locking system, automatic Southgate ejectors, and a manual top-tang safety. The top lever locks right of center.

The receiver is mated to the stock with a simple fancy-back C formation but notice in the photos how the wood is inlaid into the action, both above and below the receiver instead of merely butting up to it. This is typical Italian best-gun stuff. With deep blue demiblock barrels, the receiver is finished with the maker’s pleasing case-hardening colors, border engraved including small scrolls on the breech end of the barrels. The joining, shaping and finishing of this gun has been done entirely by hand with the utmost attention to detail – Marocchini’s custom shop.

Stock: The stock and forearm are made of 4x Turkish walnut with nice color and fancy-figure grain that is normally only encountered on fully engraved best guns. It is patterned in the classic shape with straight-hand English grip, long trigger-guard tang and splinter forearm.  Note the intricate inletting of the trigger tang. Checkering patterns are classic English hand executed at 28 lpi with full point patterns on the wrist (that are not cut short as those on Merkels), and fully wrapped around the forearm. Capping off the hand work, the butt is finished with a ¾” black leather-covered pad that enhances the colors of the Turkish walnut.

Dimensions: DAC 1 ½” DAH 2 ½”  and LOP 14 1/4” with ¼” cast off for the right hand shooter. Weight is 6 lb. 3 oz.  Includes Maker’s custom shop leather trunk case with accessories.

Condition: Near Mint, built 1984 [AM mark], little used, retaining 99%+ barrel blue and 99% casehardening colors. Tight with excellent bores, ejectors are in perfect time and barrels ring like chimes.

Price: $4,950.00

About the maker:
Founded by Stefano Marocchi in 1922, Armi Marocchi is located at Via Galilei, 6-25068, Brescia, Italy, which is in the heart of the well-known “firearms district” of Val Trompia, the mecca of the best Italian gunmakers.
A full history is shown on their but here is what most Americans do not know about this company.
Family run today, just like Beretta but on a smaller scale, Marocchi has two separate manufacturing divisions, one for production guns and one for custom handmade guns.
The production guns of Marocchi are imported in the U.S. and their basic over-and-under and semi-automatic shotguns are very similar to those priced similarly by Beretta and Benelli and of similar quality.
And just as Beretta has turned out high-end guns like their Gran Lusso SO sidelock over-and-unders, their ASA sidelock side-by-sides and their great SO9 and SO10 in their separate engraving and hand-made building (the authors of the book, The Italian Gun, call it Beretta Due), so has Marocchi been building hand-made guns in their small custom shop since 1922.
It is only their production side of the business that is known to Americans, but their custom guns are well known to Italians. Their quality is equal to Beretta model for model. It is no stretch to say a Marocchi shotgun made in their custom shop would easily rival those of Mario Beschi, Ferlib, and Zanardini – all of which are no longer in business.  Marocchi is.
And while the production guns are alive and doing well, today the custom shop is several months behind in fulfilling orders, constantly on the hunt for talented stockers, actioners, and finishers to continue the traditions as they have in the past, offering their guns with quality handwork that is expected for a custom shotgun made in Val Trompia, Italy.
The .410 offered here today is a rare opportunity for an American collector to own a handmade Marocchi shotgun.
