Description:
This is an 1861 Colt Special Musket with 1864 lock. The lock is patterned after the 1853 Enfield. Some of the metal has been cleaned. The barrel date has been removed and only the V inspector mark remains. It is properly marked STEEL on the left side of the barrel. It has one nice Inspector cartouche on the left side of the stock above the trigger. The mechanical function is very good crisp and tight, with a very good bore with milt corrosion and strong rifling. The wood stock has a small repair around the tang. About 100000 were made 1861 to 1865 and many were supplied for state contracts. This is a .58 caliber single shot with a 40” barrel. This is and excellent example of a rare Civil War musket.
