Parker Brothers shotguns have held the highest honors in the vintage American doublegun world.  Hand-fitted guns built by craftsmen who apprenticed as teenagers and built guns until retirement age…craftsmen who knew what a gun was supposed to feel and shoot like and cared about their craft.  Parkers were all hand fitted parts, hand engraved, hand checkered, shot for pattern quality and thoroughly tested before ever leaving the factory.  Today’s guns are CNC machined, laser engraved and checkered… computer built by machinists, not gunmakers.  Known for superb fit and finish, Parker did not compromise even in the entry level VH Grade.  There were over 50,000 Parker VH 12ga. guns made, BUT ONLY 17% HAD EJECTORS.  With so many of them out there, how do you know which one to buy?  Condition is important, and many Parkers were used hard and not well maintained.  IT IS EASY TO BUY THE WRONG GUN WITH COSTLY ISSUES.  At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before we purchase and our 4 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed.  This Parker VHE, sn209228 built in 1925, is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, THE ACTION STRIPPED TO THE SMALLEST PART, ALL PARTS ULTRASONIC CLEANED, SCRUBBED TO SHINY METAL, INSPECTED FOR INTEGRITY AND FUNCTION, LUBRICATED, AND REASSEMBLED (A $375 FEE IN OUR SHOP) and have a 90-day mechanical warranty.  NONE of the other sellers provide this service.  Parker guns from this era had short chambers.  PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 12GA. SHELLS TO PURCHASE.  BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARRELS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER, HAVE FOUND AMPLE BARREL WALL THICKNESS FOR SAFE ALTERATION, AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” FIELD LOADS THROUGH OUR GUNS.  This is a $360 service in our shop.  Modern chambers and long forcing cones make for safe shooting with softer recoil and better patterns, helping to prevent cracked wood and loose actions.  Other important factors are condition of the metal, screws, wood, and bores.  We provide the most comprehensive photography and specifications in the marketplace, information that allows you to make a good choice (see tables below this writing).  Remember…you get what you pay for!  If you want a doubegun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and can safely shoot modern, available field loads.  This fine Parker is in gorgeous condition, with 70% factory case color, barrels retain 98% rich, dark factory blue, tight ribs, tight as new on breech face, and excellent bores.  The action has excellent screws, ejectors are strong and timed, triggers crisp, engraving clear and sharp.   The wood has been nicely restored sometime recently with hand-rubbed oil finish, superb wood-to-metal fit, sharp checkering, no cracks or splits, terminating in the original spurred Parker dogshead buttplate.  What a great gun for your upland pursuits WEIGHING AN ULTRALIGHT 6lbs. 13oz. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, this Parker was built for fast handling with its factory original 26” barrels choked IC/F, unaltered since leaving the factory.   This gun is field ready for clays or game and is priced affordably considering all the upgrades performed by VFI craftsman.  No added expenses or long waits for gunsmithing to be done.  Thanks for looking!
