Description:
Early original Griffin and Howe Rifle built on a Springfield 1903 Action.
Here is a G&H heavy target / Varmint rifle built in .220 Wotkins-Wison Arrow. This round is essentially a .220 swift that was improved in order to reduce case life, see historical notes below.
This rifle does come with Unertl style scope blocks as seen in the pictures. Barrel is heavy bull / target style.
Included with this rifle will be an original set of C&H .220 Arrow dies boxes of brass that was acquired with the rifle. This brass was originally.220 Swift, which is the parent cartridge, altered to .220 Arrow.
This an absolutely beautiful Griffin & Howe Rifle, priced to sell.

Historical Notes Regarding the 220 Wotkyns-Wilson Arrow (Cartridges of the World, 11th Edition)
The 220 Wotkyns-Wilson Arrow was the work of Grosvenor Wotkyns and L.E. Wilson and is the 220 Swift with the shoulder angle increased from 21 degrees to 30 degrees. It dates back to the 1940s. Cases are made by reforming unfired 22 Swift cases in full-length sizing dies. Because of the longer neck, standard Swift ammunition will not fully enter the Arrow chamber and cases cannot be made by fire-forming.
General Comments Regarding the 220 Wotkyns-Wilson Arrow (Cartridges of the World, 11th Edition)
The 220 Wotkyns-Wilson Arrow represented an effort to remedy a problem by making a minor change in cartridge configuration. Factory Swift cases had the reputation of lengthening after only a few firings, requiring frequent trimming. Changing to a steeper shoulder angle improved headspacing and made for longer case life. The Arrow was a popular benchrest cartridge and a true long-range varmint number. It delivers ballistics comparable to the 220 Swift.
