We offer you an “Old School” Savage Arms Model 99F Featherweight Lever Action Rifle in .308 Winchester Factory D&T From 1956.
Savage Arms introduced the model 99F Featherweight in 1955. Manufactured in 1956, this rifle was made just made as the .308 Winchester caliber was introduced for the Featherweight rifles. This rifle has an unusual combination of old and new features not often found in 99s. The older features include the brass shell counter, cocking indicator, lever mounted safety, hand checkered stocks, and steel butt plate. The newer features include factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts, a jeweled bolt body, fold down rear sight and the more modern 308 caliber.
The left of the barrel markings are; left side “308 WIN.” and “SP” in oval, the right “HI-PRESSURE STEEL – PROOF TESTED / —MODEL 99F—“, and the top “SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION / CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A.”. The left of the chamber ring is marked “SAVAGE / MODEL 99”. Which in the sure fire way of knowing if a model 99 was factory drilled and tapped. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number in front of the lever; “916490”, the front of the lever boss is marked “16H”. “H” tells us it was manufactured in 1956.
The rifle has an excellent bore with no issues and functions just fine. The bluing on the barrel shows marks and wear from use. The receiver shows thinning from carry but overall is in fine condition. The forearm and butt stock are sound with no chips, cracks ore repairs. There are no cracks at the tang like seen in almost all older model 99’s. Both have holes for sling swivel studs but were removed at some time. The assembly marks on the butt stock and butt plate are matching; “&WB”. It wears type 1 Weaver scope mounts and rings. As well as an older Weaver K4 4x scope with a crosshair and post reticule. The package is all vintage with the rifle being a one family gun.
***PLEASE NOTE*** The white in the barrel markings is grease pencil. It will come off with a rag, gun oil and elbow grease.
This will be shipped fully insured UPS Ground to your FFL for $60. It will be shipped in a foam lined double walled cardboard box that we have manufactured for us so that your gun arrives safe.
