Description:
Colt Cavalry New York Militia, 1 of 800. The frame, barrel and cylinder have the same serial number 93692. The trigger guard and backstrap both have the same serial number 6915 and are both stamped by Orville W. Ainsworth. In this era Colt normally marked the cylinders with the last four digits of the serial number and when these guns were received by the New York Militia, the first digit of the serial number was added. It's common that New York Militia guns contained mixed serial number parts. The bore is excellent. Traces of case color present in a few protected areas. The grips do not show any markings. This gun has all four clicks while cocking. Both serial numbers are listed in the John Kopec books. This gun was shipped June 15, 1883 to the U.S. Government. The Colt factory letter states the this gun was returned by the government and refurbished then was again delivered to the U. S. Government on October 4, 1895. Refurbished guns most often have barrels that were shortened. The Colt letter states that the barrel on this gun was not shortened, which is standard for New York Militia guns.
