If you are going to buy just one Savage 99 this might be the one you should buy.The most sought after combination; 99F (featherweight) chambered in .308 Win. The 1961 guns have the best of the old and semi modern. it retains the brass rotor (brilliant for when it was designed over 100 yrs ago), with cartridge counter on the side, cocking indicator (a feature found in European guns sometimes costing tens of thousands) and the later tang safety which replaced the earlier and more cumbersom lever safety. Handsome straight grain American Walnut Factory Hand Checkered butt stock and forend and a later feature the damacented (engine turned) bolt. In .308 it is capable for game up to Moose.
This gun has been well cared for and used little. There are no marks or flaws worthy of mention. This vintage still had the nice steel butt plate as well. it is unmodified and does not even have sling swivel holes.
The internal parts of the lever still retain most of the original case color.
