Description:
This is an excellent example of a very RARE "USMC" marked Remington 40 X target rifle. These rifles were sold to the USMC and US Army in the early/mid 1960s for use by the various USMC/Army shooting teams and Army ROTC units as a way to practice marksmanship training by using the plentiful and cost effective 22LR ammo. They were all subsequently sold by/through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in mid 2003/2004. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S.M.C./ 22 LONG RIFLE" over the serial number (4383) and "REMINGTON MODEL40-X" on the side of the receiver. It has the original Remington factory walnut prone stock with the correct barrel channel for the lightweight barrel with the accessory rail in the forend with a rubber buttplate. It comes factory drilled and tapped for detachable sights (both are present) on the receiver and barrel and the front and rear sight bases for match target sights (also included with the rifle over $500 value by themselves).
Rating Definition:
Excellent with 97% of the original factory blued finish with the correct matching numbered bolt. The light colored stock is in good condition showing no handling marks and it has an excellent bore.
