Description:
The Kel-Tec Rifle Downward-ejection Bullpup (RDB) is a fine rifle that offers good balance and accuracy in a short package. The ejection port is just behind the magazine well. The charging handle is a G3/HK91/PTR91 style non-reciprocating type that works very well. The rifle comes with a 20 round Magpul magazine but will accept any 30- or 40-round magazine suitable for use in the AR15. There are two picatinny rails: one on top and one on the bottom of the forearm. The flash suppressor is an A2 style. The RDB would make for a very accurate home defense or target rifle. Like the AR-15, the RDB with its long picatinny rail can use any one of the many scope, optic, or iron-sight combinations available to the modern shooter. The rifle comes with a nylon sling. It is not equipped with iron sights. Magpul flip up sights are generally recommended but there are many other options available on the market. The RDB is chambered for the classic 5.56 NATO cartridge. Like the standard AR-15, this means that ammunition is usually available for the RDB. With a 1:7 twist rate, the RDB can stabilize bullets up to 75gr in weight. Combined with a smooth trigger, the RDB can also function as a precision rifle as a defense rifle. The adjustable gas system allows the user to set the bolt carrier speed to ensure reliability with various loads which is particularly important when running a suppressor. One important thing to remember is that to load a fresh magazine, the hammer must be cocked (i.e. the charging handle must be operated at least once). Although it sounds odd, this is by design and is not a defect. One very important feature of the Kel-Tec RDB-17 is that the controls are fully ambidextrous, allowing a left-hand shooter to operate the rifle just as easily as a right-handed shooter.
