This is an interesting rifle that has one of the first little round "bullseye" inlays in the bottom of the stock- these began in 1922. Also, it has a five pointed star at the rear of the upper tang. There has been a lot of misunderstanding about the meaning of these stampings, but it is cleared up in the Marlin Firearms book by William Brophy who states, ...when a Marlin gun leaves the factory bearing the Marlin star stamped into the metal, it is "as near perfection as the finest of materials, equipment, and skill can make it." Brophy further notes that M-94s with serial numbers 1041 and 1527 have been observed with this star. This example shows fine even blue on the barrel and magazine with only the lightest of edge wear. Exc. markings on the barrel and upper tang. The barrel is fitted with a factory buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and a factory Rocky Mountain blade front sight. The receiver is an uncleaned mottled gray/brown with fine blue on the loading gate and a trace of light case color on the upper lever and on the bolt. The lever appears to be very slightly bend downward and should be easy to put right or just leave as is.- hardly worth mentioning. The stock and forend are fine and show only normal light handling. The butt plate, stock (under the tang), upper tang and receiver have matching serial numbers. Best of all the bore is minty bright. Tight action and strong hammer spring with solid half-cock safety notch.
