German Third Reich Infantry Rifle w/BAYONET & SHEATH
Here we present a C&R German Mauser S/42 Code Model 98 Rifle manufactured in 1938 in Oberndorf, Germany. Manufactured at the start of World War II, this Mauser 98 bears the "S/42" code over the "1938" date on the receiver ring, along with with Third Reich German Military inspection marks.
In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles.
The overall condition is good. Armory refinished. The numbers match on the metal parts minus the bolt. The stock is numbered differently. The action is excellent. The bore is in nice shape with strong rifling. The stock is solid. Cleaning rod absent. The bayonet is in great shape and is numbered differently.
