Description:
This is an original full length forearm for the scarce 36 inch barrel Model 1859 Sharps rifle-musket. It is in used condition and came out of an old-timers collection of antique gun parts going back 50 years. The foream is original and in used condition showing smooth handling wear with a dark oiled finish and with scatterd nicks and scrapes but no serious damage. It does not show any cracks, chips or similar damage and does not appear to have been sanded and/or refinished. However, it has been stripped of the metal parts, including all 3 band springs, the iron nosecap and screw and the round thick washer the forearm screw goes through. These original parts can probably be purchased from antique gun parts dealers such as Dixie Gun Works in Union City TN, S&S Firearms in NY, or Lodgewood in Janesville WI. Only about 600 of these scarce rifles were produced and if you have one with a badly broken, shortened, or poorly refinished forearm then this could be just the thing to restore your rifle. You can still find original foreams for the standard 30 inch barrel M1859 and M1863 Sharps rifles, but that foream is way too short for the 36 inch barrel model. This is a nearly impossible to find original forearm for the scarce 36 inch barrel Sharps rifle-musket and after over 50 years of collecting antique U.S. military firearms I have never come across another loose original example for sale. Again, it is not mint or unused so it would be suitable for a gun in good to very good condition with comparable usage and aged patina.
