Description:
.338 Winchester Magnum Alaskan Model 70 Pre-64, Serial number 485534 manufactured in 1960. This rifle has a spectacular highly flamed fiddle back custom-made walnut stock with an ebony forend. The checkering on the stock was don by Sherry Abraham, the former head checkerer for Kimber Firearms Mfg. The chekering patter is in the fleur d' lis, and thate are no issues with any of the checkering. The checkering, as with the rifle is flawless. The rifle has a 25 inch barrel, Pachmayr Decelarator shoulder pad and there is a custom made grip cap (see photos).
This rifle will be sold with the Belvar 25 to 8 powered scope which was sent to the manufacturer for cleaning and recalibration. the scope has been with this rifle since the rifle was puchased new in 1960. The scope looks new on the outside and the optics are clear, crisp and clean. I am selling this for my friend, who is the second owner of this rifle.
Back when this rifle was new, this Brlvar scope was arguably the best scope available and cost more than other scopes at the time. This scope is a solid tube with no adjustments in the scope. The scope mount has the adjustments. the idea at the time was that you could use the scope on several guns with adjustable mounts and therefore save the cost of purchasing scopes for other owned rifles.
This rifle will shoot factory ammo with 100 yd groups of approximately 1 inch. With tuned hand loads my friend had one hole groups at 100 yds. This is a great rifle and caliber for any purpose and will make a great addition to your collection.
