Straight from the woodwork from a lifetime Illinois collection, we have Union Switch & Signal #1042606 Manufactured in March 1943. This is one of the very first US&S 1911A1's ever produced. Some early noticeable features are the lack of P proof marks on the slide or frame. The Mainspring Housing is a Colt production 27 Row, and is correct for this super early serial number. A small number were transfered to Swissvale early in the manufacturing process to get Union Switch started.
This pistol retains it's original Du-Lite finish. All small parts are correct and Matching. You won't find clearer wear patterns. I cant stress enough how hard it is to find one of these rare pistols that haven't been messed with...they just don't exist. Originality is the biggest adjuster of value of vintage 1911's.
This pistol is sporting the same parts the day it left the factory.
A look at the tip of the slide shows over a half dozen Rockwell Hardness Dimples, which gives us a look at US&S's early production struggles. Another indicator that this slide is original to the gun. HS Barrel with good bore and Matching wear.
Very few examples like this exist. It was a pleasure just to find it.
