Description:
SOLD

For sale I have a truly spectacular Belgian Browning Superposed 12ga shotgun from the Pre-Salt Era. Manufactured in 1961 this Diana grade falls well before the salt wood issue which began in 1967 and ended in 1971 or 1972 depending on who you ask. These Pre-1967 guns are the most sought after by collectors for both the quality of the materials used and the extended long tang trigger guard, which was only available by special order from late 1966 or 1967 to 1971 when it was reintroduced on various square knob guns.

I hope the photos do this shotgun justice because it is absolutely gorgeous in every regard. It features a stunning factory master hand engraved receiver that is signed by R. Dewil on both panels. The receiver finish is also the more desirable coin or flash nickel which was more common on guns manufactured before 1962-1963. This finish has a more metallic/shiny look to it compared to the later French Grey finish you see on high grade guns.

The stock is some of the finest walnut you could ever ask for on a Superposed. It has the orange hue, which is common on the late 1950s and early 1960s guns, acompanied by some extreme gold tinted feathering and dark horizontal grain throughout the entire piece. The factory finish also remains quite vibrant and shows only faint signs of careful use. The fine hand checkering measures about 20-22 lines per inch and remains quite sharp for a gun that is over 60 years old.

The LOP length of pull measures 14.5" to the end of the factory recoil pad which is fitted exceptionally well to the stock.

Barrels measure 30" and are choked Full over Improved Modified.

This shotgun is one of the best I have seen from this era and you would be very hard pressed to improve upon it in either condition or quality of any of its features!
